The Berliner Morgenpost has terrific pictures (77 of them) from Obama’s visit to Berlin. It’s worth clicking through the entire series to see — through German eyes — what Obama looks like. You might find particularly interesting the shots in the middle (36 through 47), where he’s shown with German Chancellor Merkel; the two seem actually to like each other. Contrast that with the Bush-Merkel flare-up when W tried his frat-boy charm — an unexpected and unwanted back rub — and got visually shot down.
My favorite from the series, however, is this one, sort of a “Meanwhile, back in the US.” You pays your money and you takes your choice, I guess. Speak to two hundred thousand wildly cheering people in Tiergarten Park, or hang out with Lindsay Graham at Schmidt’s Fudge Haus.
As usual, Jon Stewart has a more subtle, nuanced study of the Obama and McCain campaign efforts, including the speech in Berlin and the speech in the, well, in front of the applesauce. Don’t drive for at least fifteen minutes after watching this.
