About the show trial in Russia of three women — Pussy Riot — who were arrested and tried after they
infiltrated the Cathedral of Christ the Savior wearing colorful balaclavas, and pranced around in front of the golden Holy Doors leading to the altar, dancing, chanting and lip-syncing for what would later become a music video of a profane song in which they beseeched the Virgin Mary to rid Russia of Mr. Putin.
They’ve been convicted of hooliganism and sentenced to two years in a penal colony. The judge in the case — a woman, if that makes any difference — said the group
had committed ‘grave crimes’ including ‘the insult and humiliation of the Christian faith and inciting religious hatred.’
Well, what they really did was
mock Vladimir Putin. You know, the guy old W referred to as Vuh-lad-a-murr. W said “I looked in his eyes and I was able to get a sense of his soul.” Colin Powell, a man with arguably better sense, said of Putin, “I look in his eyes and I still see KGB.”
Reason I mention this: Our next President will have to go one-on-one with Vuh-lad-uh-murr somewhere down the line. Do I want it to be Barack, or Mitt? Frankly, I’d be happier if it were Hillary. (Assuming she leaves Bill at home.)
